We said good-bye to 2009 with a blue moon ski and a few glasses of Glühwein, as pictured ever-so-poorly below

Wir haben uns von 2009 verabschiedet mit einem Schilauf bei Vollmond (Ein Blue Moon ist der zweiter Vollmond eines Monats)und ein paar Gläßchen Glühweins wie unten geschildert.

Die Schuld liegt bei dem Glühwein

It’s not that 2009 was an awful year. We fought big development, and won. We created sculptures. Dogie was not attacked by a pit pull in 2009 and we were able to enjoy the yard we planted in 2008. But still, it was taxing, and I am looking forward to this bright new decade.

Ehrlich gesagt, war 2009 nicht so schlimm. Wir haben den Großbauunternehmer gekämpft und gesiegt. Wir haben Kunst gemacht. In 2009 wurde Dogie nicht angegriffen und wir durften unserem Garten, den wir in 2008 gepflanzt haben, genießen. Aber trotzdem was er ermüdend und ich freue mich auf das nagelneue Jahrzehnt.

2010 begann mit einem Spaziergang mit Dogie im Park

Nachmittags gingen wir auf einen Spaziergang für uns, bei einem Lieblingsort

A mere 8 months later, sop’s Full Sail gansey is done!

Bloß 8 Monaten später, der Full Sail Gansey ist fertig!

Details/Angaben:

Pattern/Muster: Beth Brown-Reinsel: Design your own Gansey
Yarn/Garn: Brown Sheep Wool: NatureSpun Worsted in Butterscotch
Needles/Nadeln: 2.0-3.0mm (many bent and broken beyond recognition)
Changes/Änderungen: A pattern based solely on changes. Used split welt with doubled yarn on 2.25mm needles to start. Graduated the ribs on the side to the ribs going up the sides to the gussets. Used neck gussets as well. Notice the ribs going all the way from the neck to the cuff? Not as easy as one might first think. One cuff is done with single yarn on 2mm needles and the other with doubled yarn on 2.25mm needles – we’ll see which lasts best
Beer/Bier: Full Sail’s Old Boardhead Barleywine Ale. Supplied by sop, an excellent match for a fishing sweater. High Octane as well.

Thank you, everyone, for your kind thoughts. Diane was a very good, and outrageous, person.

After using up most of our vacation time on sculpture, we managed to escape for the Utah holiday weekend and attend BIFF! Honestly, we only made it to one of the movies – the truly awful “Lady Gangster” – and spent most of our time visiting with friends and hiking. Just what we needed.

Nachdem wir unser Urlaub auf Skulptur verbracht haben, durften wir der Stadt über den Utah-Feiertag entfliehen um BIFF zu besuchen. Ehrlich gesagt, sahen wir nur einen Film – der furchtbare “Lady Gangster” – und haben die meisten Zeit mit FreundInnen und beim Wandern verbracht. Genau was wir gebraucht haben!

Oh, Hey! There’s Diane!

Over the past 4 years, many walks have resulted in “Oh, Hey! There’s Diane!” moments. Dogie, or “Big Red” as Diane calls him, perks up at the sight of Diane, with or without Traffic and Sweet Pea. Picking up the pace and shuffling across the street to meet her, she graciously changes her path to meet the oh-so-particular desires of the D-O-G. The “great pit bull attack of 2008′ occurred in front of her house, and she jumped to the occasion, turning the hose on Dogie’s attacker.

It’s no surprise then, that Sunday at an event up at Alta, I walked into a room of acquaintances and thought, “Oh, Hey! There’s Diane!”. No surprise, except for the fact that this was a memorial for her. Diane was diagnosed with metastatic pancreatic cancer about two and a half months ago and died on July 2. Way too soon. Way too fast.

Shit.

Two and a half months ago, we ran into Diane on a walk. She told us the news. “We have to get together soon!” Three to six months was the diagnosis. She went out of town, we worked on sculpture. Shawn saw her on another walk, she had decided to do chemo, “drag it out” she said, as only Diane could. “Dinner, soon!”

Soon didn’t get here before too soon did.

Shit.

Tut mir leid, ich schaffe es nicht das ganze zweimal zu schreiben. Lebe! Lache! Liebe!

Yes, the umbrella moves! We’ve had a great number of rain and windstorms this year, so I’ve been able to see how it handles the weather.

Der Regenschirm bewegt sich. Wir haben sehr viel Regen und Wind bis jetzt bekommen, also konnte ich erfahren wir er sich bei dem Wetter behandeln wurde.
