It’s 2011! After a rough 2010, i’m glad of the extra one, i believe. The year started out well, with a trip to Bryce Canyon for some cross-country skiing

2011 ist hier! Nach einem anstrengenden 2011 bin ich froh noch ein Eins dazu zu bekommen. Wir haben das Jahr mit Freude, und ein Trip nach Bryce Canyon, begrüßt.

The air was clear (which is a treat when you live along the Wasatch Front in Utah), and the temps were COLD (-15° to 15 ° F).

Die Luft war klar, ein Genuss wenn man entlang dem Wasatch Front in Utah wohnt, und KALT (-20° bis -5° C).

This past weekend we made it out of the city (once known as Great Salt Lake City, but now just Salt Lake City) and to the Great Salt Lake, one of our favorite areas. Well, it’s outside, so that is already a plus most of the time! We went to an area near the Spiral Jetty, Robert Smithson’s creation and hung out in some grass and SOP flew his kite. Sadly the wind was not strong enough (for a beginner) so I was unable to give it a go. Maybe next time!

Letztes Wochenende wir haben der Stadt (einmalig Great Salt Lake City, nun einfach Salt Lake City) entkommen und nach dem Great Salt Lake gefahren. Wir waren in der Nähe des Spiral Jettys, die Erschaffung Robert Smithsons und im Gras herumgehangen. SOP hat seinen Drachen steigen lassen, aber der Wind war leider zu schwach für eine Anfängerin, also muss ich auf das nächste Mal warten.

Mindestens einmal im Jahr fahren wir in die Wüste. Es gibt irgendwas um den Geruch des Wüstenbeifußes und den unendlichen Horizont das den Kopf schrubbt – oder vielleicht tut das der Sand.

2 summers ago, i planted daphne in our yard. Right by the door, ready for the afternoon sun to release the fragrant oils.

tonight, i absorb the fragrance, which reminds me of jasmine in tunisia, as it soars through the front door. i love the small, star-like flowers, sparkling with aroma.

Vor 2 Sommern, pflanzte ich Seidelblast, direkt vor der Tür, bereit um die Sonne die Ölen der Blumen zu befreien.

Heute Abend, trinke ich das Parfum ein, erinnernd an Jasmin in Tunisien. Ich mag die kleine, sternliche Blumen, mit Aroma strahlend.

Ah, 2010. I had such high hopes for you. How are you looking so far? I have been sick twice. 2X! More than i am normally sick in 2 years. Is this in celebration of double digits? Not nice.

Then, on SOP’s birthday, on a simple ski in the trees, but on a fairly flat spot with layers of differently texture snow, i heard/felt a ‘pop’ mid-turn. Crap. We got patrol, and it was a fantastic ride out to say the least! Since we were back a ways, they got a snow machine for part of the trek – until the snow machine got stuck and the patroller and i buried. They all did a great job, but the clinic confirmed what I was pretty sure of already – my fibula was broken. Drats.

Last friday i had a follow-up appointment with the orthopaedist. The fracture has shifted and that means surgery. Double Drats.

The good news, however, is that I am now on my way to robot status! I’m getting metal in my leg!

Wir haben uns von 2009 verabschiedet mit einem Schilauf bei Vollmond (Ein Blue Moon ist der zweiter Vollmond eines Monats)und ein paar Gläßchen Glühweins wie unten geschildert.

It’s not that 2009 was an awful year. We fought big development, and won. We created sculptures. Dogie was not attacked by a pit pull in 2009 and we were able to enjoy the yard we planted in 2008. But still, it was taxing, and I am looking forward to this bright new decade.

Ehrlich gesagt, war 2009 nicht so schlimm. Wir haben den Großbauunternehmer gekämpft und gesiegt. Wir haben Kunst gemacht. In 2009 wurde Dogie nicht angegriffen und wir durften unserem Garten, den wir in 2008 gepflanzt haben, genießen. Aber trotzdem was er ermüdend und ich freue mich auf das nagelneue Jahrzehnt.
