In other news, we found a home for Little Shitter! One of my colleagues has raised several parakeets and was thrilled to welcome LS into his home!

Wir haben Little Shitter ein Zuhause gefunden! Ein Kollege hat viele Wellensittichen erzogen und freute sich sehr den kleinen Kerl zu begrüßen!

My ‘list’ last night read:
1. Email Kevin
2. Vacuum
3. Fix Flat
4. Bike

Apparently what it should have read was:
1. Hang around the front yard with Dogie and Little Shitter (the bird), talking to neighbors.

And that’s just fine by me…

Meine Aufgabenliste las so aus:
1. Kevin emailen
2. Staubsaugen
3. Reife flicken
4. Fahrrad fahren

Anscheinend hätte ich sie so schreiben sollen:
1. Im Hof mit Dogie und Little Shitter (der Vogel) herumstehen und mit den Nachbaren quatschen.

Und das geht so…

at least once a year, we try to escape to the desert. There is something about the smell of sage and open skies that scrubs the brain – or maybe the sand does that.

Mindestens einmal im Jahr fahren wir in die Wüste. Es gibt irgendwas um den Geruch des Wüstenbeifußes und den unendlichen Horizont das den Kopf schrubbt – oder vielleicht tut das der Sand.

Viele Raupen haben uns begrüßt

aber es hat uns nichts ausgemacht

but we didn’t mind

Kannste die zwei Kerlen sehen?

Wenn man genau hinguckt, merkt man wie die Augen zu sind

when you look really close, you can see that they are both nodding off

und jetzt spielen

and now some play

weniger Blumen als wir erwartet haben

not as many flowers as we thought there might be

der Fluß tut den Füßen gut

the stream feels good on the feet

und der erste Tag endet mit einem hundemüden Lächeln

day one ends with a dog-tired smile…

Our neighbor found this little guy today. After giving him some food (he was looking awfully woozy), he was going to set it loose again when no pet shops would take it. Since that would spell certain doom, he is now hanging out with us (snoozing right now after eating for a good hour!).

Now off to the coffee shop to hang a flier…

i have been to the desert, and to the garden, and to the neighbors’ garden. i have pictures of some of these things and not of others.

now i just have to sit down long enough to upload them to flickr…
