photography and running have both suffered due to air quality lately. Somehow, the constant muck (air quality almost 6 times as bas as L.A. lately!), makes it hard for me to want to be outside at all. I did manage to speed-walk to the photo store monday after work to pick up film developer though, and developed two rolls of film last evening. Perhaps that is what caused it to snow last night meaning that i may actually be able to run home from work today? Ah, breathing without an overload of particulates, how will it be?

Letztens haben Fotografie und Laufen bei mir wegen der schlechten Luftqualitaet gelitten. Irgendwie finde ich es unglaublich schwer in dem dauernden Mist ueberhaupt daraussen zu gehen (Unsere Luftqualitaet war 6mal so schlecht als die in Los Angelos). Montag nach der Arbeit aber bin ich doch auf einem Superschnellspaziergang zum Fotoladen um Entwickler zu kaufen gegangen. Dann letztem Abend habe ich Film entwickelt und vielleich ist das der Grund warum wir in der Nacht Schnee bekommen habe, was bedeutet dass ich heute nach Hause laufen darf. Atmen ohne atmosphärischen Schwebstoff, wie wird es sein?

I believe i have mentioned Dogie’s affinity for stuffed animals these days. I am pretty sure that as i write this Dogie is licking another layer of fur off Deer, if there is a layer left to lick at this point. Poor Deer.

Ich habe vielleicht Dogies Liebe fuer Stofftiere erwaehnt. Ich bin ziemlich sicher dass, als ich das hier schreibe, er noch eine Pelzschicht seines Stofftiers ableckt. Armes Deer.

And so i decided to make him a fulled toy. A toy where licking might serve to strengthen, and not weaken the structure.

Also entschied ich ein Filztier zu machen. Ein Kuscheltier bei dem das dauernde Lecken die Struktur staerker anstatt schwaecher maeche.

Unfortunately, it is a bit big for Dogie and he has expressed little interest in it, so it will probably go to Dogie’s other parents’ new kid.

Leider ist es etwas zu gross fuer Dogie und er hat wenig Interesse darauf, also wird es wahrscheinlich ein Geschenk an das neues Kind seiner anderen Eltern.

The guy i trained for the marathon with last year (well, ‘trained’ may be an exageration - we ran together at least 3 times in preparation for the marathon, though ) moved to San Francisco last fall. Even before he moved, he was telling SOP and me about a race there. A crazy race where people dress up and drink the whole way and just play: 12K of craziness. We are trying to figure out a time to visit them this year and thought the run might be fun to do while we’re out there, so i finally googled it last night.
“How do you think it’s spelled,” i asked SOP, “B-E-T-A B-R-E-A-K-E-R-S ?”
“Yeah, that sounds like it to me, possible B-R-A-K-E-R-S though.”
Well, english, like all languages, is pretty amazing and while the name always sounded like “Beta Breakers” to me, it turns out the name is “Bay to Breakers”. Should be fun regardless of the pronunciation.

Der Mann, mit dem ich letztes Jahr auf dem Marathonlauf trainiert habe (nun, ‘trainiert’ ist vielleicht uebertrieben. Wir sind aber wenigstens 3 Mal in Vorbereitung auf dem Marathonlauf zusammen gelaufen, aber), ist nach San Francisco umgezogen. Schon vor er umzug, redete er ueber einen Lauf da. Ein Lauf wo die Menschen sich kostumieren und betrinken und einfach Spass machen: 12K von Verruecktheit gefuellt.. Zur Zeit denken wor darueber nach, wann eine gute Zeit sei ihn zu besuchen und dachten es mache Spass den Lauf zu machen. Also, letzten Abend habe ich den Lauf gegoogled ( wahrscheinlich kein Wort, aber Ihr wisst was ich meine, oder?).

“Wie schreibt man es, desknst du,” fragte ich SOP, “B-E-T-A B-R-E-A-K-E-R-S ?”
“Ja, meine ich, aber es koennte auch B-R-A-K-E-R-S sein.”

Nun, Englisch, wie alle Sprachen, ist ziemlich wundervoll und obwohl der Name mir immer wie “Beta Breakers” klingt, ist er eigentich “Bay to Breakers”. Egal, es sollte lustig werden.

For me it is. The last of the holiday gifts i have to share were given to me, by SOP. “All i want for christmas is for the bookshelves in the basement to be finished”. You see, we finished most of the darkroom/office space last fall (read 2005) but there were still no shelves in the cabinets or bookshelves in the corner. The darkroom was usable, but the majority of my books were still in boxes because i had no place to put them and my darkroom gear was piled in the cabinets to the best of my ability, but there is only so much you can do without shelves.

Luckily, SOP took me seriously on my christmas wish and now we (i) have these:

Haben wir noch Weihnachten?

Bei mir schon. Die lezte der Weihnachtsgeschenke die ich zu zeigen habe hat SOP mir gegeben. “Alles, was ich zu Weihnachten moechte, ist die Fertigung der Regale im Keller”. Wisst Ihr, wir haben das Buero / die Dunkelkammer im Herbst 2005 ‘beendet’, aber es gab immer noch keine Bretter in den Schraenken und auch noch keine Buecherregale. Die Dunkelkammer war brauchbar, aber die Meisten meiner Buecher waren noch in Kisten da ich keinen Platz fuer sie hatte. Zudem war meine Dunkelkammerausruestung in den Schraenken hoch gestapelt, aber das geht nur so weit ohne Bretter.

Gluecklicherweise hat SOP meine ausgedrueckten Wunsch ernst genommen und jetzt haben wir diese:
