Tuesday, October 10th, 2006I have this fabulous series of books titled “Ueberlieferte Strickmuster aus dem Stierichen Ennstal”. It describes a style of knitting that i believe in english is called twisted stitches (Eunny Jang, of course, has an introduction to the process which i haven’t actually read, but probably should, although her symbols are nothing like my book’s).
In any case, going along with my love/hate relationship with socks and my seeming desire to make myself love socks more than i hate them, i am currently working on a pair of socks using this method. The goal is to also incorporate the shaped arches from EZ as described by Meg Swansen in the fall vogue knitting.
All well and good, except that when i say “working on a pair”, i mean “deciphering how to start the damn things”. I need 25 dag (decagram, i have found out) fine sock yarn and needles of size 2 (i imagine 2.0mm). The pattern says to cast on 104 stitches, but gives no gauge. I have cast on 104 stitches and, although i do have muscular calves, i do not think my calves are quite as big as this is working out to be…
It’s not that i am just a slow knitter, i am a slow beginner as well.
