IK fall 2006

i’m an IK subscriber, and it came yesterday! Amazing. Review? Well, there are other people doing that much better than i, but there are two things that i noticed with this issue that i feel are comment-worthy.*

1. The Gatsby Girl Pullover by Jodi Green (link to preview):
This pattern actually mentions the recommended amount of ease! If i could ask for one thing in patterns it would be to please, pretty please, let me know how much ease they recommend. Knowing that the size the model is wearing is 34″ doesn’t help me much because i personally cannot tell what amount of ease that might be from the picture (can anyone else? If you can, please let me know how you do it – i need that skill!). I am so thrilled about their mentioning the ease that i am going to stop asking Interweave to read my mind about this and shoot off an email to tell them how much i appreciated it!

2. The advertisements:
skacel: Two inch thick makeup does not look good on a woman, let alone an 8-year-old girl. And that jacket you have her wearing? Well, perhaps the makeup was required to protect her true identity.

showers of flowers: No real branding on the advert, but just look for the man in the ill-fitting baby-blue jacket with the caption “It’s his turn, and he’s worth it.” If you truly feel he is worth this jacket, your relationship may be in trouble. It is knit at far too loose of a gauge to hang well and will make just about any man look frumpy.

Louet: Gorgeous! I want that sweater!

The Alpaca Yarn Company: Next time, try to use photoshop for good, not evil.

Knit Picks: That skiier you show in your advert for Telemark yarn, is an alpiner, not a telemarker. Maybe he is on Randonee skis, but he is still not telemarking – his heels are definitely clamped down. If you are just referring to Telemark, the (former) city in Norway, and not the type of skiing, don’t use a picture of a skiier who IS NOT TELEMARKING!!!

*all comment are solely my own and are not to be taken too seriously. If you happen to feel that ill-conceived baby-blue menswear is the language of love, or that children really do look best with orange faces, i’m open to discussion. Just don’t mess with me on the telemark thing, that one’s personal.

I gave up my subscription to IK because it was on the newstands before it was in my mailbox. The preview looks like there are a few things in there I would like.
