IK fall 2006
Friday, July 28th, 2006i’m an IK subscriber, and it came yesterday! Amazing. Review? Well, there are other people doing that much better than i, but there are two things that i noticed with this issue that i feel are comment-worthy.*
1. The Gatsby Girl Pullover by Jodi Green (link to preview):
This pattern actually mentions the recommended amount of ease! If i could ask for one thing in patterns it would be to please, pretty please, let me know how much ease they recommend. Knowing that the size the model is wearing is 34″ doesn’t help me much because i personally cannot tell what amount of ease that might be from the picture (can anyone else? If you can, please let me know how you do it - i need that skill!). I am so thrilled about their mentioning the ease that i am going to stop asking Interweave to read my mind about this and shoot off an email to tell them how much i appreciated it!
2. The advertisements:
skacel: Two inch thick makeup does not look good on a woman, let alone an 8-year-old girl. And that jacket you have her wearing? Well, perhaps the makeup was required to protect her true identity.
showers of flowers: No real branding on the advert, but just look for the man in the ill-fitting baby-blue jacket with the caption “It’s his turn, and he’s worth it.” If you truly feel he is worth this jacket, your relationship may be in trouble. It is knit at far too loose of a gauge to hang well and will make just about any man look frumpy.
Louet: Gorgeous! I want that sweater!
The Alpaca Yarn Company: Next time, try to use photoshop for good, not evil.
Knit Picks: That skiier you show in your advert for Telemark yarn, is an alpiner, not a telemarker. Maybe he is on Randonee skis, but he is still not telemarking - his heels are definitely clamped down. If you are just referring to Telemark, the (former) city in Norway, and not the type of skiing, don’t use a picture of a skiier who IS NOT TELEMARKING!!!
*all comment are solely my own and are not to be taken too seriously. If you happen to feel that ill-conceived baby-blue menswear is the language of love, or that children really do look best with orange faces, i’m open to discussion. Just don’t mess with me on the telemark thing, that one’s personal.
holgadreams
Thursday, July 27th, 2006last night, i dreamt i was shooting.
I had a camera set up on a tripod and was taking pictures with a remote cord. I was feeling really good about some of the shots, especially the one of the woman passerby in the red shirt. I was so glad a snagged that one! A gentleman walked up and asked if my camera was a Leica. “No,” i said (and thought, I wish!), “it’s a Holga“. Which clued me in to the fact that i had not advanced the frames while shooting. Poof! The lady in the red shirt disappears. Ten shots on one frame only rarely amount to anything.
not quite a hiatus
Tuesday, July 25th, 2006i ended up knitting.
i meant to take a break, but sop really needs the office some of the time right now and so i can’t print as much as i’d like and well…
Not sure if the top part will be multi- (getting rid of some stash) or single-colored yet, but i’ve been craving a vest for quite some time.

Monday, July 24th, 2006i’m thinking.
it’s been quiet here lately. Some of it has been self-induced (headphones on at work to make me less accessible, hiding in the darkroom all day saturday and most of sunday) and some not (email not coming through until days after it was sent - considering this is how i am notified of comments, kind of a pain).
Thank you for your comments about Harley. I feel so sorry for his family. Anyone who has ever had to put a pet down knows how rough of a decision it is. These are our friends and yet we are more responsible for them than any other friend we have. To not be able to take care of them, or to not be able to heal them, is so painful.
In further news, i think that this is absolute tihsllub and loved Eric’s take on it over at There’s a pattern here to see - the comments are definitely read-worthy as well.
