clearing up

i know i’ve posted pictures from this vantage point before. I do love how the mountains on the other side of the valley look, though. Even on an overcast day like today, when the sun hits them just right, it is like magic.

the cable that was not

Tuesday, February 21st, 2006

so, it started out as this:
wrong cable

Luckily, i had read about fixing screwed-up cables recently on Knitter’s Review’s forum and knew what to do, or at least had an inkling. And no, it wasn’t frog.

So, i removed the 6 stitches of the cable from the needles like so:
six stitches hanging free

The picture shows only 4 stitches free, and that would have worked, i think, but to be safe i dropped all six stitches of the cable down to the offending row. Keep in mind that my moniker is NOT LittleMissPatient for good reason. I did not want to have to redo this TOO many times.
that's a lot of yarn

i was a bit surprised at just how long the yarn was. I also had placed a small needle in the stitches below the evil row before dropping anything. I then attempted to re-knit the stitches using the small needle and ended up with extra yarn at the end of my cable, so i went to one size LARGER than i was knitting and it worked perfectly.

re-knitting

The cable was a C4B (slip two stitches to a cable needle and hold to the back, K2, K2 from cable needle) so i had to finagle around the yarn loops at the back a bit. I think this would have been a perfect opportunity to knit WITHOUT a cable needle. I typically prefer to work with the cable needle, but i think in this case, without would have been smoother. Oh well, next time.

In any case, now i have this:

fixed

and i am feeling pretty darn smug.

the good old presidents

Monday, February 20th, 2006

you know, the thing i really like about abraham lincoln was that he was an aquarian. I think he’s one of my favorite aquarians, actually. I’m also proud to share Susan B. Anthony’s birthday (just the day, mind you), but she was never a president of the united states, so has little to do with the great holiday i got to celebrate today: Presidents’ Day.

With fewer stink sleds up the canyon than usual, we got to celebrate in style, on cross country skis.
